You can use many different types of tents while camping. There are ground tents, rooftop tents, and truck bed tents. Plus, there are many different variations of all three of these options. I have personally experimented with ground tents and rooftop tents. Today, I’ll cover which tent might suit you best.

Rooftop tents are relatively new and became very popular during COVID in 2020-2021. There is a wide variety of these tents. They come in both soft-top and hard-top configurations. You can also mount these on the roof of your car or over a truck bed rack in the bed of a truck. In my opinion, the iKamper series provides some of the best rooftop tents on the market. All of their tents are hard tops, and they are top quality. A brand new iKamper 4.0 will run you close to $5,000 for the biggest model, but they can commonly be found on Facebook Marketplace for much cheaper.

Ground tents are honestly one of my favorite ways to camp, as they provide quite a few advantages. For one, it is really nice to be able to leave your sleeping setup together if you are going on adventures through the day while camping. With a rooftop tent, you need ot packup your tent every time you want to move your vehicle. I really like the Coleman tents as they are a very simple design and provide many entry-level options just around $100-$200 to get you started.
Have you experienced a rooftop tent before?
