When you are out in the backroads, nothing hits quite as hard as a good meal. Today, I will be sharing my favorite meals to cook while out on an adventure. I will be covering meals with a variety of difficulties and preparation times. From easy BBQ meals to elaborate duck poppers, I have experimented with a wide variety of food choices while in the backroads. There is nothing better than sitting down at the end of the day to a beautiful sunset with all of your good friends and enjoying a meal that was cooked out in the wilderness.
First up is ribeye or New York cut steaks. This is one of my favorite expansion favorites that I have; however, it is simple and effective. All you will need is a cast iron pan, butter, salt/pepper, and a nice juicy steak. These can be cooked over most types of camping stoves, but I highly recommend a sufficiently sized burner to meet the needs of the pan you are using. While this may be one of the most expensive items on my list, it may be my absolute favorite for how simple and tasty it is.
One of the fancier dishes that I like to cook while out camping is duck poppers. This dish may be harder to replace if you don’t hunt ducks or know someone who does. However, if you are lucky to find some mallard or teal breasts in your possession, I highly recommend trying this recipe. You will need: 4-6 duck breasts (depending on size), jalapeños, pepper jack cheese, cream cheese, and bacon strips. Simply butterfly the duck breasts and place a slice of jalapeño, pepper jack cheese, and some whipped cream inside and wrap the whole thing in two bacon strips. I then recommend inserting a couple of toothpicks to keep this whole thing together (just please remember to take them out after you are done cooking. Next, place these bad boys on a BBQ and cook until the bacon is cooked to your liking. This requires more prep; however, it is a very tasty and filling meal while out camping that I have done many times.
