When you’re looking for a trusty watch for outdoor adventures, I’d recommend a couple of options. From most expensive to least expensive: the Garmin Tactix 8, Apple Watch Ultra 4, or a Casio G-SHOCK. All of these vary widely in price, and there is a watch for any kind of budget. The decision depends on your price point and the features you want.

To start with the smartwatches, there are two options in my mind. You can either look at some type of Garmin or an Apple Watch. I personally do not have either of these, but many of my friends have high praise for both of these brands for adventure watches. The price ranges vary, but on the low end for a high-quality watch, you would be looking at around $700. At this price point, you can expect to have high-quality health monitoring and GPS connectivity.

On the budget-friendly end, when considering a non-smartwatch, I highly recommend checking out a Casio G-Shock. Not only are these watches affordable, but they are highly durable. I have had my first G-Shock for over 10 years and have never changed the battery. Something like a GBA900 will run you about $150 has a two-year battery life, and runs on a simple CR2025 battery. Even the most basic G-Shocks these days can connect to Strava to track your workouts.
